CITY COUNCIL’s TAX DOLLAR BALLERS REJECTED OVER $42 MILLION IN GRANTS SINCE 2023.

  • Grants for flood mitigation in South Barberton were rejected (TWICE!), even though three of four phases were already done, and the project was supported by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, FEMA, Muskingum Watershed District, National Fish & Wildlife Foundation, & the Army Corps of Engineers (Ord. 124-2024 & Ord. 57-2024)

  • After being selected for funding from among 40 other jobs throughout the region, repair of an unsafe “broken intersection” was thwarted by Council over the recommendation of the planning commission, so $2.2 million had to be returned to AMATS for communities with wiser leaders to go after (“Barberton Council kills funding for roundabout“ Akron.com, 9/12/24)

  • A major annual grant for investment in safety and justice was also rejected by Council, which voted down a request for $1.6 million for 25 years from the Barberton Community Foundation (“Barberton Council defeats grant request” Akron.com, 11/16/23)
